How the Original Layout looked within the Club

Concept

The concept for the revised layout is “What if the NSW Government back in the 1920s used the truss girder bridge it had built over the Shoalhaven River for its original purpose and continued the railway south from Bomaderry into Nowra and then on south to Batemans Bay and Moruya.” The railway would have passed through the flat land east of current Nowra and (keeping to the flatter land and minimising river crossings) gone on to the area of the current highway turn-off to Jervis Bay thenĀ  passed to the west of Milton (Croobyar Road area) before heading to Ulladulla.

If it continued south it would have passed west of Lake Conjola and on through Lake Tabourie where the MUMRC clubhouse is currently located. This gives the club members the opportunity to model its Clubhouse and the scenery in Lake Tabourie as the (hypothetical) south coast railway continues south.

Original purpose

The club’s digital layout was constructed as a modular layout designed to be taken to regional model railway exhibitions. It was built in the Dunn Lewis Auditorium in Ulladulla prior to the club having its own building at Lake Tabourie. Now that the digital layout is in a permanent location and no longer needs to be modular for exhibitions the club has decided to rebuild this layout into a format that provides greater operational capacity and visually reflects its south coast location.
